Dr. Diego Pabon Romero was educated in Colombia, South America, where he received a doctor of medicine at Universidad Industrial de Santander/School of Medicine, Bucaramanga, Colombia, in 2002. He was recognized in 1999 and 2002 as Distinguished Medical Student for his outstanding academic performance.

As part of his training in South America, Dr. Romero completed an internship at Hospital Universitario Gonzales Valencia, Colombia, in 2002. Following the completion of his medical degree, he served as a research associate at the University of Miami School of Medicine for a year, where he participated in electrophysiology studies aimed at identifying the spinal cord neurotransmitters involved in locomotion.
