A 1998 graduate of Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida, Dr. Alejandro Luis earned a bachelor of science in biology. He received a doctor of medicine from Escuela Autonoma de Ciencias Medicas de Centro America, Costa Rica, in 2005, graduating at the top of his class. While pursuing his education, Dr. Luis was employed as a health educator with the Panhandle Area Education Consortium, Chipley, Florida, for four years.
